I am newly challenged to explore the difference between Calvinism and Weslyanism/Arminianism. I need to start with basic, easy for newbies to understand definitions and comparisons. Your recommendation of Kuyper may come useful later but is a bit too heavy for now.
Can you comment on this comparison that I found:

And could you recommend any other resources for me to start with?

    Hi Lois,

Yes, Kuyper is not a good place to start on understanding the basics of Calvinism. Here are a few suggestions for good places to start:

The Five Points of Calvinism – this book helpfully introduces the reader to the differences between Arminianism and Calvinism, as well as to the important biblical texts that need to be examined in discerning what God thinks.

Why I am not a Calvinist – a brief book from an Arminian perspective
Why I am not an Arminian – a brief book from a Calvinist perspective

John Piper’s TULIP offers good video teaching on this topic from a Calvinist perspective.

*I highly recommend reading the original sources. Calvin’s Institutes, though long, are very readable and you need not read it in entirety.
