I recently read and really enjoyed the book BUSINESS AS A CALLING by Robert Novak. He is a Catholic theologian and philosopher and so comes from a unique perspective, and as a third party that is able to clearly see the many redeeming qualities of business. Despite the book being written in 1996, it’s still very relevant today. Used hardbound copies of the book can be found in the Amazon marketplace for less than $5 now.

The chapter titles are as follows, which will give a better idea of its content:

    Intro: Plenty Isn’t Enough
    1. What Is A Calling?
    2. Little-Known Facts About Business
    3. A Morally Serious Calling
    4. For the Poor and for Democracy
    5. Virtue in the Modern City
    6. Three Cardinal Virtues of Business
    7. Seven Plus Seven Corporate Responsibilities
    8. Business and Human Rights
    9. Making Things Better
    10. Giving It All Away
